Pronator Syndrome is a nerve compression.
Symptoms are very similar to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, because it involves the same nerve that cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, but the difference is that the nerve is compressed in a different location, closer to the elbow.
This is a difficult diagnosis to make, and it is often missed. Physicians have to rely on a high clinical suspicion (findings on the examination, and from the history), and nerve tests can help. The problem with nerve tests is that a lot of places that perform nerve tests do not know how to interpret certain findings on the emg that could indicate pronator syndrome. At the Brown Hand Center, our physiatrists are trained to look for those suttle changes on the nerve test and therefore help us pinpoint the location of your nerve compression.
If you do have pronator syndrome, our minimally invasive, endoscopic assisted pronator release will help to alleviate the pressure on that nerve.
